Among all the Kansas City Chiefs' playmakers, Nikko Remigio is probably one of the last who gets thought of.
However, that doesn't mean that he doesn't have an important role on the team. He is the Chiefs' top return man on special teams on both kickoffs and punts, and occasionally contributes as a wide receiver on offense.
Remigio signed with Kansas City as an undrafted free agent in 2023. He made a strong impression during training camp, but unfortunately sustained a season-ending shoulder injury during the preseason. After making the practice squad in 2024, he joined the 53-man roster late in the year, and made a big impact as a return specialist.
While speaking to the media on Friday, Toub discussed how hard Remigio works at his craft as he has settled into his role.
"He's solid," Toub said of Remigio. "He's a guy I can depend on. I call him the adult in the room. I like having him back there, especially on kickoff returns, because the kind of crazy balls that we're getting, and the way you have to read the kickers and the kickoff coverage. He's back there, and he does a great job on those little things that people don't really realize.
"He works at it in practice," Toub continued. "He goes all out in practice with his catches and his finishes. It's really important to him. He studies tape. We get together, and he's a student of it, and he's a great teammate."
Remigio had a season best 47-yard kickoff return during the Chiefs' victory over the Baltimore Ravens last week. He is averaging a stellar 26.7 yards per kickoff return, and 11.3 yards on punt returns. Offensively, Remigio has one reception for 21 yards, and one rush for 11 yards.
He has yet to find the endzone during his young career, but it feels like a matter of time until he does. Remigio should continue to be an X factor on special teams, and with all the weapons that the Chiefs have on offense, that could open something up for Remigio to sneak in and make a big play.
