'I Can Dominate!' Cowboys' Overshown Reveals Lofty Goals
Aaron E. Martinez/American-Statesman / USA TODAY NETWORK

It doesn't matter where DeMarvion Overshown lines up as a rookie; the Dallas Cowboys linebacker is just ready to ready to get to work.

Of course, that doesn't preclude him from wanting to start and make an immediate impact when he sets foot on the field. Rather, the rookie linebacker has a clear goal to do just that from the jump.

"I want to start on all special teams, No. 1," Overshown said as the Cowboys ready for training camp in Oxnard. "As far as goals, I want to make an All-Rookie team. Getting those meaningful snaps on defense and helping us out."

Starting on special teams gives him an opportunity to see playing time early, which would allow him to show made him worthy of a third-round pick. That, of course, being his ability to fly around the field and wreak havoc wherever he goes, racking up tackles with ease.

Overshown was drafted as a linebacker out of Texas, coming off the best season of his college career - recording a career-high 96 tackles as well as 10 tackles for loss and four sacks.

However, he was recruited out of high school as a safety and spent the first two seasons at Texas at defensive back. Able to come downhill and meet the ball-carrier as well as dropping back in coverage makes him a unique weapon in coodinator Dan Quinn's defense.

"I've shown that I can dominate blitzing and dominate in coverage. I feel comfortable doing both and I can only get better at both," Overshown said.

Where he'll ultimately line up for Quinn is yet to be seen. The Cowboys have Leighton Vander Esch holding down one of the linebacker spots, with an opening for playing beside him

Even then, it is worth noting that Micah Parsons should be mentioned in that discussion. Not only that, but second-year linebacker Damone Clark showed potential last season. The rookie linebacker has made it clear, however, that he'll play "any and everywhere" on defense under Quinn

"I'm a football player, I really just can't wait to put on that helmet," said Overshown, who gets that chance in Oxnard starting now.
