'I want to make my own mark' — Jordan Love shares heartfelt reflection on his journey, Aaron Rodgers, and what's ahead for the Packers

Jordan Love has a unique journey. At 14, he experienced one of the worst possible pains, when Jordan's dad took his own life. Quitting football was a possibility, but the support from his mom made him keep trying. From California to Utah to Wisconsin, Love has built a beautiful journey.

In a heartfelt text on The Players' Tribune, Jordan talked about his story. How his mother helped and still helps him, how painful it was to lose his father as a teenager, how he got where he is now.

At that time, Jordan considered focusing on basketball, because he wasn't starting and life was hard. Eventually, football became his safe space to forget his problems for a few hours. He grew, showed his talent, and started to become what he is today.

"Same as it’s always been, since I was 14 years old.

That was the year that I lost my best friend in the world — my dad.

My world was turned upside down. I wanted to quit football. Honestly, I kind of wanted to give up on everything. I was just a lost kid. So my mom made this deal with me.

'If you keep playing football, you know I’ll always be there for you.'

Simple as that."

Relationship with Aaron Rodgers

On his first days at Utah State, Jordan Love didn't think he would reach the NFL level. He started as a backup in high school, as a backup in college. So the experience under Aaron Rodgers wasn't a problem like the external perception indicated. It was exactly what Love needed.

"Before me and Aaron could even talk, the narrative was rolling. And it’s so crazy to me, because from the jump, Aaron was great with me. He laid out how he was in my same situation, and that he wanted to make sure there was no hostility. I told him I just wanted to learn and soak it all in."

That's what Jordan did, for three seasons. And when he took over as a full-time starter in 2023, Love was as ready as a quarterback can be to start his NFL journey on the field.

For Jordan Love, though, football means much more.

"Without that brotherhood of football, I never would have made it. That camaraderie of football took me out of a really dark and lonely place."

Now, it doesn’t matter who was the quarterback before. Yes, Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers are legends, and what they did as members of this franchise will never be forgotten. However, Jordan Love wants to build his own legacy.

“I’m my own man with my own story, and I want to make my own mark on this franchise. I want to write my own chapter here, following in the footsteps of the legends who wore this G before me. And I just think about what all this would have meant to my father.”
