The Cleveland Browns have undoubtedly improved this offseason after finishing 3-14 last year. It was a tough campaign, especially coming just one season after making the playoffs.
One surprise this offseason, however, was that the Browns didn’t do more to bolster their wide receiver room. Jerry Jeudy is slotted in as the No. 1 option, but beyond that, there are plenty of question marks. Veteran Diontae Johnson was the only wide receiver addition made in free agency.
That said, the Browns may not be completely done yet. There’s one potential move that a Browns insider believes Cleveland should at least explore.
Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com recently discussed the idea of the Browns trading for Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin, who is seeking a new contract.
“Once a Terry McLaurin comes along, you have to at least consider it. You have to at least look into it, weigh the pros and cons, determine what that might look like over the next four years or something like that,” Cabot said.
“I wouldn’t rule it out, but I don’t get the sense right now that they’re looking to add a big, high-priced receiver.”

McLaurin is entering the final season of his three-year, $68 million deal and is set to become a free agent next offseason. The Washington standout is coming off his fifth straight 1,000-yard season, posting 1,096 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2024. Remarkably, McLaurin hasn’t missed a game since 2020 and has only missed four games in his six-year career.
Cleveland is counting on Cedric Tillman and Jamari Thrash to step up this season, with Johnson expected to be a solid contributor. Tight ends David Njoku and Harold Fannin Jr. should also play key roles, but the Browns could still use another reliable wideout.
Of course, acquiring McLaurin would mean the Browns are committing to two big-money contracts at wide receiver — something they may be hesitant to do with Deshaun Watson’s hefty deal still on the books. Still, it’s a situation worth considering.
