If Miami Can’t Trade Tua, DO NOT Cut Him

Hello, my fellow Dolphins fans.  Let me make the case for why keeping Tua is in the Dolphins’ best interests.

Let me start by saying that Tua needs to go.  There is no question about that.  This team is rebuilding from the ground up, and Tua isn’t in the plans and shouldn’t be.

His extremely poor play last year, his physical limitations, we all get it!

But I think we can all agree that making a trade is the best scenario.  Some type of draft capital and some type of cap relief; mostly, cap relief is what is needed from a trade.

The thing is, most teams know that if Tua gets cut, it will cost nearly nothing to bring him in because Miami is still paying the huge contract.  So why would any team trade now at this point?

Exactly, right now, most teams don’t really have a real QB issue.

Free agency hasn’t started, and the draft hasn’t happened yet.

You wait this out into training camp and even into the start of the season.  We need to gain leverage, and players do get hurt.

Other quarterbacks might look terrible in pre-season and in the regular season.

Miami still has to pay him, no matter what.

What if a playoff-bound team loses its starter for 4 weeks, or even the entire year?!

Now what?

Wouldn’t you pay a 28-year-old veteran to come in and hold down the fort?

One that has had success.

I get the injury history, but if Tua is a real competitor, what is he doing to counter this narrative this offseason?

Just let him mentor Quinn Ewers and anyone else in the QB room.

This narrative that you can’t have Tua in the building is ridiculous.

He is there to be a mentor and hold a clipboard, nothing more.

This isn’t like he is going to be a bad teammate and set a bad example on how to be a pro.

Also, maybe a fresh camp and more pre-season play might get him noticed by another team.  They want us, as Dolphins fans, to be patient with the process, and then everyone should be on board with this part as well.  This includes our new GM and new head coach!
