'I’ll remember that forever for sure' – One very unexpected moment by Dan Quinn may be the jolt the Commanders needed for the season

The Washington Commanders brought the vibes back up with a statement win against the Las Vegas Raiders, and they can ride this momentum the rest of the season because of one big moment that happened off the field.

We've seen and heard just how close the locker room is, dating back to last season, and the team's veterans help lead the way, but the head coach is just as important. Dan Quinn has always been known as a players' coach and leads by example, but something happened in Week 3 that got the team fired up and could spark the rest of the season.

Dan Quinn took one for the team

The team started the game hot but needed to maintain the momentum with a 17-10 lead just before halftime. Quarterback Marcus Mariota rolled out to set up a field goal before going into the locker room, and what happened next took everyone by surprise.

Mariota was hit as he went out of bounds, and went headfirst towards Quinn, who took a massive hit that laid him out on the ground hard and forced his nose to bleed.

Quinn popped back up with blood running down his face, Matt Gay kicked a 56-yard field goal before halftime, and players were fired up. Bobby Wagner, one of the biggest leaders on the team, talked about how that single moment shows who Quinn is as a coach.

“Man, I think it just represents who he [Quinn] is, to be honest," Wagner said. "He talks about it all the time, just his mentality, and it's literally like ‘If you get knocked down, get back up and keep going’. He literally did that. His nose was bleeding, everything's bleeding, and the cut, and he stayed there, locked in, and got some treatment. At halftime, he came back out, so it was cool to see.”

"I mean, whenever you see somebody that leads the ship go down like that," Wagner added. "Then bounce back up, everything that he preaches to us, we felt like we saw that in that moment. He got knocked down, got hit pretty hard, and he didn’t have any pads on or anything. He came back up, and it was kind of like a movie. While he was getting treatment, we weren't sure if he was going to be able to come out. So, we're gathering everybody, I'm getting ready to speak, and then he comes out of nowhere and [he ’s] like ‘I got it’. And it was just a cool moment, I’ll remember that forever for sure.”

The team was in the locker room after the game, discussing how fired up they got from seeing it, and how it motivates them to play even harder for a coach who can take a hit like that and bounce back to keep leading the team. Javon Kinlaw, who wasn't on the team last year, summed it up perfectly for the whole team and why they love Quinn.

Another leader on the team, Frankie Luvu, even gave Quinn a game ball in the locker room after he addressed the team and celebrated the win, while showing off his new battle scars on his nose.

The vibes were low during the past week following the loss to the Packers, but a game like this has the fan base fired up again. Quinn taking that hit on the sideline has the players motivated to play their hardest as they prepare to head to Atlanta next week to take on the Falcons.
