Indianapolis Colts Could Plan Future Pursuit Of Justin Jefferson
David Reginek-USA TODAY Sports

Could the Indianapolis Colts make a play for Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson?

Jefferson is preparing to enter the final year of his contract without a new deal, so there has been some speculation that the Vikings could trade him before the start of next season.

Adam Patrick of The Viking Age came up with a list of six teams that could potentially make a move for Jefferson, and the Colts made the cut.

Indianapolis has a receiving corps that includes Michael Pittman Jr., Josh Downs and Alec Pierce, so the team is not exactly starving for options. However, if it were able to pair Jefferson alongside of Pittman, it would suddenly have one of the best groups of wide outs in football.

The Colts own the 15th pick in the NFL Draft later this month, so any trade package for Jefferson would almost certainly have to start with that draft choice.

Of course, this is assuming that Minnesota doesn’t ultimately extend Jefferson.

The Vikings have stated that they don’t plan on trading Jefferson, so they could merely be in the process of figuring out the perfect contract for him.

Jefferson is expected to become the highest-paid non-quarterback in football.

That being said, it remains to be seen if Jefferson actually wants to stay with Minnesota long term. The Vikings lost Kirk Cousins to free agency and don’t even know who their quarterback will be heading into 2024. That doesn’t sound like an ideal situation for one of the game’s best pass-catchers.

It’s also entirely possible Jefferson simply wants to get paid, and if the Vikings are able to come to the table with what he feels is a fair offer, he may just sign on the dotted line.

If not, the Colts may be a team to watch in the potential Justin Jefferson sweepstakes.
