Indianapolis Colts Finally Add Fifth Wide Receiver
USA TODAY Sports

The Indianapolis Colts have elevated former Houston Texans and Green Bay Packers returner/wide receiver Amari Rodgers from their practice squad to the 53-man roster.

The Colts posted on X: “We have signed WR Amari Rodgers to the 53-man roster from the practice squad and placed CB Dallis Flowers on IR. We have also signed CB Darren Hall to the practice squad.”

Given that starting cornerback Flowers is out for the season with an Achilles injury and is now on Injured Reserve, it makes sense that the Colts move up another pass-catcher to help quarterback Anthony Richardson given the newly opened roster slot while adding an experienced corner in Hall to the practice squad in preparation to replace Flowers.

For his career, Rodgers has 20 catches for 249 yards and 1 score. He’s also got experience on special teams as a returner. Throughout his four-year career, Rodgers has 17 kick returns for 321 yards. For the punt returns, he’s accumulated 40 for 305 yards.

Rodgers may not have a massive career showcasing that will send Colts fans to buy tickets, but he’s an interesting addition to head coach Shane Steichen’s offense.

Also, Richardson needs all the weapons he can get for his development in the NFL, so who better than a veteran who’s seen some time on the big stage?

Given that Rodgers has a skillset that might fit the slot role as a depth piece, look for there to be a plan for his addition to the roster. Could he make an impact as soon as Sunday against the AFC South rival Tennessee Titans? We’ll have to wait and see.
