As training camp begins, the Indianapolis Colts are going to be a very interesting team to watch. After two years of disappointing results, Chris Ballard and the front office decided to bring in more serious competition for young quarterback Anthony Richardson.
During NFL free agency, the Colts went out and signed veteran quarterback Daniel Jones. While he’s a veteran, he’s still young enough to be a potential long-term option if he works out.
Indianapolis can’t afford to keep searching for a quarterback. The team has struggled to find consistency at the position since Andrew Luck’s sudden retirement.
With that being said, a strong new prediction has been made for the outcome of the Colts’ quarterback competition.
Bleacher Report analyst Moe Moton spoke out and revealed his prediction for Indianapolis in a new column.
Not only does he believe that Jones will win the start job, he believes that it won’t be close. His latest prediction would be very bad news for Richardson’s future with the Colts.
“In a bit of an upset, Daniel Jones will unseat incumbent starting quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. for the lead position,” Moton wrote.
“This offseason, the Indianapolis Colts signed Jones, who had a short stint on the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad and active roster after the New York Giants released him in November of last year. The seventh-year pro can turn this opportunity into a career rebirth.”
Jones has played decently throughout his NFL career thus far. However, the situation with the New York Giants was simply never great. He was unable to live up to the hype of being a franchise quarterback despite showing flashes of that talent and potential.
Throughout his 70 career games played, Jones has completed 64.1 percent of his pass attempts for 14,582 yards, 70 touchdowns, and 47 interceptions. He has also run for 2,179 yards and 15 touchdowns.
On the outside looking in, those aren’t bad numbers. Jones could take off in a new situation with more talent around him.
Expect to see the Colts’ quarterback competition be a heated one. Richardson and Jones will battle it out, but Moton’s prediction would shake up both the present and future in Indianapolis.
