Indianapolis Colts Showing Interest In Intriguing Wide Receiver
Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

According to NFL reporter Aaron Wilson, the Indianapolis Colts are among the teams scheduled to hold virtual meetings with Texas A&M wide receiver Ainias Smith.

The versatile Smith, who participated in the Senior Bowl, stands at 5-9 and weighs 190 pounds. His athleticism is highlighted by a Relative Athletic Score of 7.31 out of 10, featuring a 4.55-second 40-yard dash and a 6.84-second 3-cone drill.

Throughout his college career, Smith primarily operated from the slot, amassing valuable experience with over 2,100 snaps. However, his 2022 season was hampered by a leg injury, limiting him to just four games.

Despite facing quarterback changes in 2023, Smith showcased his skills by hauling in 53 receptions out of 78 targets, averaging 15.0 yards per catch and scoring twice.

Beyond his prowess as a receiver, Smith displayed versatility by recording 71 rushing attempts, particularly notable with 49 in 2020, and engaging in 86 punt return attempts, achieving an impressive 14.3 yards per return in 2023.

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein likened Smith’s style to that of Christian Kirk at the NFL level, projecting him as a potential Day 3 pick. However, Smith recently underwent surgery for a shin stress fracture discovered during medical testing at the NFL Combine. Despite this setback, Wilson reports that Smith is on a “speedy recovery” path.

While the Indianapolis Colts boast talent in receivers Michael Pittman, Josh Downs, and Alec Pierce, they recognize the need for another dynamic playmaker in their lineup. Furthermore, enhancing support for their young quarterback Anthony Richardson remains a priority for the team.
