It was day three of training camp for the Indianapolis Colts at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana, on Friday morning. It did not disappoint. The first thing to point out is that this practice was an hour and 15 minutes long, as the first two were only an hour each. With each practice getting longer, so is the physicality between the players. In this article, I will point out the biggest notes from day three, as well as point out my biggest surprise so far through training camp.
Day three of Colts training camp was the best day of practice for Anthony Richardson Sr. He went 8-of-11 (5-of-8 with the starters). Richardson’s best target of the day was rookie Tight End Tyler Warren, whom the QB hooked up with on three different routes. The most promising thing for Richardson was that all his throws today were more short, on-target throws, giving his pass catchers a chance to run after the catch. Richardson struggled with the short passing game last season.
Daniel Jones went 7-of-11 (3-of-4 with the starters) on the day. His best throw of he day came out of a muddy pocket (probably should have been a sack) to find Josh Downs down the field for a completion. Warren showcased on Friday some of his best qualities. Those are his natural ability to snare passes all over his catch radius.
The biggest surprise to me so far is that, through three days of training camp, the wideouts are still dropping on target passes from the quarterbacks. I will pick on Adonai Mitchell a little bit. When he has been targeted, he has had a trio of drops/fumbles through the first three days. It is not just him. The whole wideout group has had drops on perfectly thrown balls.
The team has yet to put the pads on, but that time is coming, and so are longer practice times. Tomorrow’s practice will run 90 minutes. Stay tuned to Total Apex Sports for all my articles on training camp for the Indianapolis Colts.
