Indianapolis Colts Training Camp: Day 4 Notes

The Indianapolis Colts were at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana, for day four of training camp. There are plenty of storylines to discuss, but none bigger than the lackluster quarterback battle between Anthony Richardson Sr. and Daniel Jones. There is also the emergence of rookie Cornerback Justin Walley, who has been with the starters every day of camp. Let’s dive into all the training camp storylines for the Indianapolis Colts and what the biggest surprise has been so far.

Colts Training Camp Day 4

The first thing I want to discuss is how lackluster this quarterback competition has been so far, spanning four days of training camp. Both Richardson Sr. and Jones have shown no separation from each other. I will say that real chemistry is brewing between Richardson Sr. and Tight End Tyler Warren. Warren had his second one-handed catch from Richardson on day four of camp.

The quarterback competition will get even more interesting on Monday as it will be the first practice in pads. The second thing I want to point out is how great this defense will be under new DC Lou Anarumo. The secondary has been very sticky in coverage through the first four days of camp, making it very hard to find passing lanes. This is one reason that the QB competition has been so close. With better coverage it makes it harder to complete passes.

The last thing I want to point out, and I know I might sound like a broken record saying this, but rookie Cornerback Justin Walley has been the biggest surprise of training camp. This kid is solid in coverage, and clogs the passing lanes. This makes it hard to complete passes on him. He has made plenty of pass breakups so far, and I will be shocked if he is not the team’s second cornerback on the depth chart.
