Indianapolis Colts unveil 'Indiana Nights' jersey and helmet

Anthony Richardson's first dance with the Colts will feature a fresh look in Week 7. The team revealed its alternate "Indiana Nights" uniform with a social media post on Thursday.

The biggest problem with the video is that it doesn't use "Mary Jane's Last Dance" as its soundtrack. If you're going to quote a Tom Petty song lyric in the caption, use the song.

Otherwise, people might think "Indiana Boys" are starting a feud with "Jersey Boys." The Colts might be more threatening, but who on the team can hit a note like Frankie Valli? Probably no one.

As for the uniform, it's OK.

The video makes a big deal of the black helmet, hailing it as the first in franchise history. To quote John Oliver, "Cool."

Another point of emphasis is the uniform itself, which the team describes as an NFL first for its heathered design. Apparently, someone thought, "How can we make an NFL uniform look like sweatpants?" And then that person made it a reality. Truly inspiring stuff.

Hopefully, the Colts are just as inspired on the field. Last season was a disaster, with former head coach Frank Reich fired nine games into the season and owner Jim Irsay selecting Jeff Saturday, a former player with no college or professional coaching experience, as the team's interim head coach. Indianapolis finished 4-12-1.

Richardson was selected fourth overall in the 2023 NFL Draft and has all the physical attributes teams want in a starting quarterback. Concerns about his accuracy are well documented and something to keep an eye on as the season unfolds.

Ultimately, his progression will determine how long the Colts are in rebuild mode. If he flounders, those "Indiana Nights" will turn into Indiana hangovers.
