The Indianapolis Colts will look to get to 2-0 in the AFC South on Sunday when they play host to the Tennessee Titans. The Colts have the best record in the NFL at 6-1, and the Titans, on the other hand, come in at a dismal 1-6. The blue and white finished practice on Friday with great news on the defensive side of the ball, with the team opening the 21-day practice window for CB Jaylon Jones, who has been on IR since training camp. This comes after the team just placed CB 1 in Charvarius Ward on IR last week.
The offensive side of the ball got great news with Josh Downs progressing well this week, with even the red non-contact jersey coming off on Thursday. All signs point to the third-year slot receiver playing on Sunday. Two other players are progressing well, also with Running Back Tyler Goodson and Ashton Dulin, both practicing in some capacity this week.
The defensive side of the ball, which is in worse condition than the offense, got a spark with the team opening the 21-day practice window for Cornerback Jaylon Jones. The corner has been on IR since training camp with a hamstring injury. He has practiced all week.
The defensive end position was missing two key contributors this week, with Samson Ebukam and Tyquan Lewis both missing practice all week. Head Coach Shane Steichen said Lewis was day-to-day, while Ebukam would be week to week, making the defensive end position light for the game against the Titans.
It is still too early to tell if Jones will be ready to go this week. My take is he will be ready next week when the team heads to Pittsburgh to face off against the Steelers. It will also be a week where rookie JT Tuimoloau will see more action, and I expect him to take advantage of the opportunity at hand.
The Colts will look to start 2-0 in the AFC South for the first time since 2013. It will be very interesting to see how the defensive end rotation is and how effective it will be. Stay tuned to Total Apex Sports all season long for NFL coverage.
