The Los Angeles Chargers turned in an absolutely awful and injury riddled performance against the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday afternoon at Sofi Stadium, losing 38-10. The Chargers fell behind early after an interception on their second possession that put them behind 6-0. By the time Justin Herbert got the offense going, the Chargers were already down 13-0. With the Chargers getting the ball to start the second half 16-7, it seemed as if LA still had a decent shot to pull of the comeback.
However, the Chargers managed to do nothing with their opening possession of the second half and allowed the Jaguars to march down the field at will for the remainder of the game, with Trevor Lawrence finding Christian Kirk for multiple touchdowns to put the game out of reach. The loss itself is very concerning considering that the Jaguars are a team who hadn’t won a road game since 2019. The injuries coming out of the loss are immensely more worrying and a major cause of concern for the Chargers moving forward.

If the loss to the Jags wasn’t enough, the Chargers found out Monday morning that starting offensive tackle Rashawn Slater will be out for the year with a torn bicep. This news comes after the Chargers already lost center Corey Linsley to a knee injury for a few weeks, and are already missing pro bowl wideout Keenan Allen. The Chargers also saw star defensive end Joey Bosa suffer a thigh injury and linebacker Kenneth Murray go down with an injury. Not to mention that pro bowl cornerback JC Jackson was also out with an injury and Justin Herbert is dealing with fractured rib cartilage while playing.
Essentially, the majority of the Charger’s best players are now hurt, including their franchise quarterback who is now playing behind backup offensive linemen. This is especially concerning because the Chargers offensive line without Slater and Linsley has been pretty poor, greatly increasing the risk of Justin Herbert suffering a worse injury. Even with a softer schedule coming up for the Chargers, they look nothing like a team ready to be a contender this season. While Injuries have derailed their start to the season three weeks in, the Chargers have done nothing on the field to prove that they are super bowl contenders thus far. That will only be more difficult moving forward now with injuries mounting.
