There is a healthy respect between Packers All-Pro edge rusher, and former Packers quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, who will lead the Pittsburgh Steelers against Green Bay on Sunday night.
Rodgers will get a crack at revenge against his former team, and Jordan Love, the quarterback he helped mentor that would ultimately replace him, but, the matchup between the 41-year-old quarterback and Green Bay’s All-Pro edge rusher could be the most compelling and impactful in Sunday’s contest.
While Parsons’ ability to follow up his three-sack outbreak against the Cardinals last week could go a long way towards determining the outcome of Sunday’s game, according to The Athletic’s Matt Schneidman, the veteran pass rusher has long admired and looked up to Rodgers.
“To me, it’s a great sign of respect,” Parsons told Schneidman, of the time Rodgers offered to swap jerseys after a Cowboys-Packers game. “Just the type of guy he is, that he could recognize such a young player in the league, so I have nothing but respect for him and he’s become one of my favorite players just because of that moment.”
Now preparing to take the field against one another three seasons after Rodgers traded his Packers jersey for Parsons’ Cowboys’ No. 11, the veteran quarterback says he’ll have his head on a swivel looking for No. 1 on Sunday night.
“I’ve played against Micah before. He’s a phenomenal player,” Rodgers told reporters. “He’s a future Hall of Famer, he’s a game-wrecker, and you’ve got to know where he’s at at all times.”
