The Dallas Cowboys' joint practices with the Los Angeles Rams in Oxnard weren't the best for Brian Schottenheimer's unit, with Sean McVay and Co. having the better of the practices.
Still, that didn't stop the social media bashing from the Cowboys, with the run game being poor, the offense and defense struggling, some think the end is already here.
We don't subscribe to that.
After all, it is a practice, but secondly, as Schottenheimer states, Dallas wasn't exactly running its proper playbook.
“Don't read too much into it guys,” Schottenheimer said. “We literally played two coverages. We literally kept all of our clubs in the bag. We're out there playing with a seven iron. Hate to tell you guys, but I'm going to be honest, we're going to be playing with a seven iron most of the preseason. Unless I get pissed. If I get pissed, the ball's probably going down the field if I get pissed.”
Schottenheimer's "pissed" emotion here referred to the early practice struggles, when he became frustrated and called a "bomb," a play he now wishes he hadn't, as the Rams are aware of it.
Still, Schottenheimer, by design, was playing very vanilla football on both sides of the ball. No, you can't completely ignore what was put on film, but also don't put too much stock into it.
Yes, there were some things to tidy up, and some things that worked well, but it is hard to get a true test of this group until the driver, wedges, and all irons are being used.
So, for all of those "Cowboys stink" or "Schottenheimer sucks" people, we ask one simple thing from you at this early stage of the offseason.
Let the cake bake.
