Inside linebackers projected to make Green Bay's final 53-man roster

The Green Bay Packers came in at No. 4 on Pro Football Focus's 2022 linebacker unit rankings. That is unusually high for a team that has not had a top level group of inside linebackers since the end of the Brett Favre era. First-Team All-Pro MLB De'Vondre Campbell is back fresh off of signing a five-year, $50M deal. He is the clear leader of that positional unit and Green Bay's defense as a whole. But who else in the room is making people feel equally excited about the potential and talent that could be put forth on the field this season? Which inside linebackers are going to make the final 53-man roster before Week 1 and have a key role in Defensive Coordinator Joe Barry's defense?

De'Vondre Campbell - Again, Campbell is arguably the best inside linebacker in the league after last season. He was the only defensive player to record 140+ tackles, 5+ passes defensed, 2+ sacks, 2+ interceptions, and 2+ forced fumbles. After coming to Green Bay on a one-year deal around the veteran minimum late last Summer, he was voted to be an All-Pro and earned a new $50M deal over the next five years. He is the present and future at MLB in Green Bay.

Quay Walker - The National Champion inside linebacker was arguably the best player on Georgia's defense last season. He led the team in tackles during 2021 with 77. Walker is one of the fastest sideline-to-sideline prospects in the game. He had a faster short shuttle and three-cone drill time at the NFL Scouting Combine, than his old teammate at Georgia in cornerback Eric Stokes, who he is now teammates with again. Stokes runs a 4.2 40. Let that sink in. The first-round pick is bringing his championship pedigree and production to Lambeau Field, where he'll be playing for years to come.

Krys Barnes - Barnes was the starter next to Campbell last season. The soon-to-be third-year veteran set career-highs in tackles, passes defensed, and fumble recoveries in 2021. He is always around the ball. His experience and growth has put him in a great spot. He might get replaced by Walker this year but will be a fantastic rotational piece at worst.

Ty Summers - Summers is more of a special teams piece at this point. The former seventh round pick out of TCU has started just one game in three seasons on defense. He played 76 percent of the team's snaps on special teams to just 3 percent on defense. Special Teams Coordinator Rich Bisaccia could look to keep him around on that side of the ball, and he should also continue to get better learning from Campbell and other talented pieces.

Isaiah McDuffie - The former Boston College alum played in 13 games last season ad made two tackles on special teams. McDuffie seems to be in the same camp as Summers. At Boston College, McDuffie did finish his final season with 107 tackles, which was fifth-most in the nation in 2020. He has produced before but like Summers, he just needs more opportunities.
