Insider addresses Tucker Kraft's contract discussions with Packers

The Green Bay Packers didn't make a ton of moves this offseason, but they did right by one of their best playmakers, signing Christian Watson to a four-year extension.

Tucker Kraft seemed to be next in line after Watson's extension, but so far, nothing has happened.

Kraft has said all the right things about wanting to stay in Green Bay, and he's motivated to take the field regardless of whether he gets a new contract or not.

According to ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler, he's about to reset the tight end market, but given the lack of progress, the Packers may have to speed things up.

"This summer has featured complete market resets at cornerback and defensive tackle, and tight end could be next. It's the only offensive or defensive position without a player making $20 million or more per season, but the Packers' Tucker Kraft is hoping to change that," Fowler wrote. "He remains in discussions about a new contract, but it has been a bit of a standoff so far. Green Bay hopes to get something done by the end of Week 1, so perhaps urgency prevails here."

The Packers will kick off the season with a tough road matchup with the Minnesota Vikings.

Kraft is coming off a season-ending ACL injury, so it's understandable that they might want to protect themselves with the contract's language or guarantees.

That said, he was also in the midst of a breakout season, and he's clearly Jordan Love's preferred and most reliable target.

And with Sam LaPorta also looking for a market-setting deal, Kraft's asking price may only go up if they don't get a deal done soon.
