Insider believes Bears are 'likely' to deal No. 1 pick

The NFL Draft is roughly six weeks away, but the Chicago Bears have been on the clock at No. 1 for quite some time. Whether they make the first selection on April 15 is still debatable, but word from the NFL Combine in Indianapolis suggests that the top pick will be on the move.

On Sunday, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport stated that the Bears are "more likely than not" to trade the pick.

"The interest in Ryan Poles' No. 1 pick for the Chicago Bears is significant. And the quarterback performances that we saw yesterday only bolstered that," Rapoport said.

Several quarterbacks, including Florida's Anthony Richardson and Bryce Young, turned heads on Saturday at the combine. With a number of teams in need of a quarterback, especially within the first 15 picks of the draft, the Bears are in an envious position holding the first choice with quarterback Justin Fields already in tow.

Initially, speculation rose about the Bears potentially using the pick on quarterback themselves while trading away Fields for assets. However, last week, Poles threw cold water on the rumors, saying he'd have to be "blown away" to trade Fields, adding that the plan was for him to be the team's starter next season.

That leaves only two options for the Bears, select anything but a quarterback or deal the No. 1 pick for a boatload of draft capital. For a team still trying to build a contender, they should do everything they can to put pieces around Fields, and trading the top pick is the best way to do that.

The latest report shouldn't be a surprise, as the popular belief from the get-go was that the Bears would look to move the pick. Last week, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Bears were "leaning toward" trading the pick.

Now, all that's left to determine is which team will cough up the hefty price for a shot at a possible franchise quarterback.
