The Tennessee Titans decided against strongly pursuing quarterback options like Sam Darnold and Justin Fields. There was also speculation that they could consider a reunion with Marcus Mariota but he decided to return to the Washington Commanders.
With the remaining free agent quarterback options not that appealing, the Titans could take a chance on a cheap veteran. Kansas City Chiefs free agent Carson Wentz hasn't been talked about much this free agent period.
Despite being a former MVP candidate and All-Pro, he's been relegated to backup roles for the past few seasons. However, he's still only 32 and spent the last two seasons learning from Sean McVay and Andy Reid.
Perhaps the years of taking a step back could've been what he needed to return to form. The Titans have limited options and the Boston Globe's Ben Volin is connecting them to Wentz.
"Keep an eye on Carson Wentz and the Titans," Volin wrote on X.
This move could make some sense considering new Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi worked with Wentz in Kansas City last season. He should have a good read on where the quarterback is these days.
Wentz didn't get a chance to play many meaningful snaps over the last two seasons so it's hard to know if he's worked out the kinks that turned him from a superstar to a backup. If the Titans don't plan to use the No. 1 pick to select a quarterback, Wentz could make sense as competition for Will Levis in 2025.
