Both the Las Vegas Raiders and San Francisco 49ers massively underperformed compared to expectations last season. The Raiders got caught with an inexperienced head coach in a division full of veteran leaders and 10-win teams.
The 49ers dealt with injuries throughout the campaign and were never able to get on the same page considering all the moving pieces. While the Raiders cleaned house in terms of their leadership, the 49ers kept theirs in place.
Las Vegas added head coach Pete Carroll and general manager John Spytek into the fold this offseason. Both have already proven that they know exactly how to make the Raiders' roster better.
While the offseason will certainly provide answers for these two franchises, their first true tests will come during the preseason. On August 16, these teams will play against each other in their second exhibition matchup.
The Athletic's Vic Tafur also reported that in addition to the preseason game, the two teams are expected to have a joint practice leading up to the event. This will take place on August 14.
Joint practices are always exciting for both the teams and their respective fan bases. Training camp reports are great, but knowing how a team stacks up against others will always matter more than controlled practices.
Las Vegas has a unique opportunity to learn a lot about themselves when they face off against the 49ers. With a new head coach and several new players in place, how they perform in this environment could dictate their odds for early-season success.
