While there’s been next to no news on Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr, one NFL insider believes things could pick up steam this week with several general managers and head coaches gathering in Mobile, Alabama, for the Senior Bowl.
SI.com’s Albert Breer recently stated that Raiders general manager Dave Ziegler will be in attendance at the college all-star game (where coincidentally the Matthew Stafford to Los Angeles Rams trade gained traction two years ago), and it wouldn’t be surprising if a few teams began kicking the tires on Vegas’ three-time Pro Bowler.
“As things advance, I’d think three of the NFC South teams (Saints, Panthers, Buccaneers) could throw hats in the ring,” Breer wrote. “And maybe the Jets would, too (the Commanders and Colts are two others to consider, though they might be gun shy given their recent strikeouts on trades for second-chance veteran QBs)."
#Raiders QB Derek Carr is expected to be traded, despite the $40.4 million guarantees that trigger on February 15 in his contract, according to @AdamSchefter

Adam adds Carr will have plenty of suitors: "The entire NFC South is expected to be in the market for a new quarterback." pic.twitter.com/AQrdWHWaPR
Breer also mentioned that Carr and his agents have not received permission from the Raiders to explore a potential trade. Many believe teams interested in the 31-year-old QB will just wait until after Feb. 15 when his $32.9 million base salary for 2023 and $7.5 million of his owed money for 2024 becomes fully guaranteed.
Carr went 6-9 as the Raiders starter this season, passing for 3,522 yards with 24 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He had four 4,000-yard passing seasons in nine years with the Raiders, and only Tom Brady, Matt Ryan, and Kirk Cousins have thrown for more yards than Carr’s 35,222 since 2014.
He signed a three-year, $121.5 million extension in April.
“Carr has the advantage of knowing—whether he’s cut or traded—that he’ll be able to find a new home a month ahead of the market, and he has a no-trade clause to control his destination,” Breer added. “So, will the Raiders be able to swing a return for him? Or is he going to be the rare February free agent?"
Thank you to all the people reaching out trying to give me their platform to tell my side of what happened. It's the hardest thing in the world not to jump on every interview and tell the whole truth. Thank you but I'm choosing to move on and give our next city our best.
