Insider on Giants: 'This is a full-blown rebuild. There's concerns all across the board'

Expectations seem to be near-universally low for the New York Giants headed into the 2022 regular season. Both the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles have been popular picks this summer to make the playoffs out of the NFC East, and even the Washington Commanders see some slight improvement with a perceived upgrade at quarterback in Carson Wentz.

The Giants meanwhile are largely banking on star running back Saquon Barkley staying healthy and even if he's able to do so, the team still has loads of question marks on their roster.

Mike Sando of The Athletic released his annual column Thursday morning where he breaks down "Every NFL team's biggest worry," according to team executives. For the Giants, there may be too many count, as Sando labels New York's worry as "an overall lack of depth."

"This is a full-blown rebuild. There’s concerns all across the board. I don’t even know where to start. There is a complete lack of depth, too," the column reads. "When (Kayvon) Thibodeaux had the knee and then (Azeez) Ojulari went out with the calf, you are going, ‘Oh my gosh, who is going to rush the passer?’"

If the experts are right, Giants fans may have to prepare themselves for a sixth straight season where their favorite players are sitting on the couch come playoff time.

New York opens up their season on the road against the Tennesse Titans at 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday.
