With every touchdown that Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith throws, the price of his next contract presumably gets that much higher.
During a recent appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Jordan Schultz, and NFL insider for the Score, speculated to just how much money Seattle could possibly have to pony up to keep Smith around.
“They’re not negotiating right now, but there is an understanding that both sides would like this to work out, ideally,” Schultz said. “But Geno’s not going to just take $80M, $100M. I think now that number is well over $120, $130 [million]. It’s getting into that range, and so Seattle has to make a decision.
“They’ve paid DK [Metcalf], they’ve paid Tyler [Lockett]. Obviously Jamal Adams, they’ve paid a lot of guys, but Geno ultimately is the biggest decision because he’s a quarterback. And this is considered a pretty good quarterback class, if they have a top-three pick, they could get one of those guys.”
If Schultz’s projection holds true, Smith’s new deal could make him the 11th-highest paid quarterback in the NFL, per Over the Cap, just ahead of Carson Wentz ($128M) and Derek Carr ($121.4M). Only 13 QBs are playing under contracts worth $100M or more.
To put Geno Smith’s phenomenal season into perspective, he has now tied the NFL record for the longest streak of games with a 60+ completion % and an 80+ rating. He’s done it in 12 straight games. The only other QBs to do this in SB era are Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers.

The 32-year-old Smith is undergoing a career revival in his ninth NFL season. He leads the NFL in completion percentage (71.5), and he ranks third in passer rating (106.8), fourth in touchdowns (25) and yards per completion (eight), and sixth in passing yards (3,433).
Among QBs to start 10 or more games, Smith has the lowest drop percentage (2.7) with the fourth-fewest batted passes (four) and fifth-most big-time throws, according to Pro Football Focus.
