Insider shares if Titans' Mike Vrabel could replace Patriots' Bill Belichick

Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel is routinely mentioned as a possible offseason replacement for Bill Belichick of the New England Patriots, but it seems Vrabel will stay put until further notice.

"Like Belichick, Vrabel is still under contract for the 2024 season," Titans insider Turron Davenport of ESPN explained for a piece published Tuesday. "...Multiple team sources in Nashville have said the Titans intend to retain Vrabel as their coach."

Davenport added that Titans general manager Ran Carthon "and the personnel department have been working with their head coach to find players who fit his system, style of play and culture that he has instilled since arriving in 2018."

Vrabel earned three Super Bowl rings playing for the Patriots from 2001 through the 2008 campaign and has gone 52-42 as Tennessee's head coach since 2018. The 4-8 Titans are currently in the middle of somewhat of a roster rebuild and are starting rookie Will Levis at quarterback after veteran Ryan Tannehill began the season as the club's QB1.

As for Belichick, he was the subject of numerous rumors regarding his future this past summer even before his Patriots fell to 2-10 on what's become a disastrous campaign for the organization. The 71-year-old has been linked in rumors with the Washington Commanders, Los Angeles Chargers and, most recently, the Carolina Panthers. He reportedly signed a contract extension earlier this year that runs through the 2024 season, so Patriots owner Robert Kraft could look to obtain assets by trading Belichick's rights to a different club this coming winter.

"One of the first things we do in the morning is either me going to his office or [Vrabel] comes [to my office]," Carthon told Davenport about his working relationship with the Associated Press Coach of the Year for the 2021 season. "We check in and kind of see what's going on throughout the day."

It appears that the relationship will continue regardless of where Belichick calls home in 2024.
