Insider suggests one team is closer than ever to signing Aaron Rodgers

The New York Giants are in need of a starting quarterback. Fans and pundits expect general manager Joe Schoen to draft a rookie signal caller in April but one report suggests signing a well-known veteran could be plan A.

NorthJersey.com's Art Stapleton told "The Pat McAfee Show" on Thursday that New York is "pretty significantly down a road" in landing QB Aaron Rodgers.

"My understanding is, yes, they have talked about what it would take to get Aaron here,” Stapleton said. "At every turn, the Giants have yet to be scared off ... I think from a football fit, this is something that they’re seriously considering.”

Despite owning the No. 3 overall pick in the upcoming draft, Schoen isn't guaranteed to have Miami's Cam Ward — considered the top QB prospect in the class — available when New York is on the clock.

It's widely believed a trade with the Tennessee Titans for the first overall selection will be what it takes to guarantee a top passer in Round 1.

If Schoen can't swing that, perhaps snagging the four-time league MVP might be a necessary move to bridge to whichever younger prospect the team brings in.

Rodgers missed all of 2023 with a torn Achilles but recorded 3,897 passing yards and 28 touchdowns in 2024 with the New York Jets.

Swapping locker rooms at MetLife Stadium probably wouldn't be a hard transition, but there are still some hurdles to clear. Throwing 11 interceptions and winning just five games last season aren't blemishes that can be ignored.

Even if Rodgers can deliver wide receiver Davante Adams to pair with Malik Nabers, it feels like a high-risk, high-reward rental instead of the long-term solution the team desperately needs.
