Insider updates what Packers want from Jets for QB Aaron Rodgers

There's an update on what the Green Bay Packers allegedly want from the New York Jets for quarterback Aaron Rodgers this spring. 

According to Paul Kasabian of Bleacher Report, NFL insider Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports reported during Wednesday's edition of the "Wilde and Tausch" ESPN Milwaukee program that the Packers are looking to land a 2023 second-round draft pick and a guaranteed 2024 first-round selection in return for Rodgers. 

Robinson added that the Packers would give the Jets draft compensation for 2025 if Rodgers retires after this coming season, but Bleacher Report's Erin Walsh pointed out that Robinson also said Jets owner Woody Johnson got "scared" over the fact that Rodgers claimed during an appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" last month he entered his much-publicized darkness retreat "90 percent retired and 10 percent playing."

Rodgers told McAfee he intends to play for the Jets later this year. 

As noted by SNY, ESPN’s Adam Schefter said on the latest episode of his podcast that the Jets and Packers "seem to be stuck in, dug in, and very stubborn in their own stances about what Aaron Rodgers is and isn’t worth." 

Schefter believes that "Green Bay seems quite content to wait until after the draft to make a trade" unless the Jets meet the asking price for the future Hall of Famer. 

"We just don’t know whether it will get wrapped up by or during the draft," Schefter explained. "It doesn’t sound that way now, but that could just be tough talk from both sides, and one conversation could change that."  

Packers offensive tackle David Bakhtiari raised eyebrows throughout the NFL community when he recently suggested during the "Bussin' With The Boys" podcast that Green Bay could threaten to hold onto Rodgers into the summer months if the club remains dissatisfied with the Jets' offer. 

Financially speaking, the Packers can wait until Week 1 of the 2023 campaign to exercise the $58.3M option bonus attached to Rodgers' contract. 

In short, there's no indication the saga involving the Packers, Jets and Rodgers is nearing a resolution.
