Another week, another disappointment for the Las Vegas Raiders and their fans. They weren't exactly expected to win Week 5's bout with the Indianapolis Colts, but there was some hope that they could rebound on offense and put up a decent fight at least.
Instead, they absolutely wet the bed, falling to 1-4 with a blowout 40-6 defeat in Week 5. The Colts might be top contenders this season. They moved to 4-1 on the year after obliterating the Raiders and could have been undefeated had they not spoiled two of their own potential touchdowns against the Los Angeles Rams in their only loss of the season.
Indianapolis could very well be just a solid team capable of beating up on bottom-feeders. If that's the case, then Las Vegas might be in the abyss this year. Some of their fantasy owners probably think so.
Geno Smith continues to prove all of his haters correct and all of his supporters silly. After throwing three interceptions against the Chicago Bears in a very winnable game, he followed that stinker up with another two picks and a pitiful 18.9 QBR versus the Indianapolis Colts.
Indy has a solid, albeit unspectacular, defense this season. They allowed Matthew Stafford to throw for nearly 400 yards without a turnover in Week 4. Against Geno and the Las Vegas Raiders, they looked like worldbeaters. Anyone still holding out hope that Smith can become a viable fantasy starter this year should go ahead and drop him for a better option. There won't be much competition to pick him up off waivers later on in the season anyway.
On the bright side for the Raiders, it looks like they hit a home run with their sixth-overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, even if they could have addressed other needs first. Had they had a more sturdy offensive line in place or gotten a franchise quarterback first, Ashton Jeanty might look even better this season.
Still, the former Boise State Bronco has proven in the last two games why Las Vegas was so enamored with his talent. Despite Smith's struggles and constant turnovers, Jeanty still had a solid day, posting 14 carries for 67 yards and adding another 42 yards on five catches for 15.9 full-PPR points this week. He's clearly too gifted not to be a consistent starter on any fantasy roster, even alongside a horrid Raiders offense.
Brock Bowers was unavailable this game due to a knee injury, and his absence was felt. Still, even he hasn't been able to be a consistent fantasy force this year for the Raiders. Las Vegas' passing game is simply too inconsistent, and Geno Smith has been way too turnover-prone for the likes of Jakobi Meyers and Tre Tucker to be trusted as anything other than desperate streaming options moving forward.
Until Geno and this air attack prove otherwise, they should be treated with extreme disdain from the fantasy football realm.
