Adam Peters has made several eye-catching trades since joining the Washington Commanders. Most have paid off, but fans are skeptical about another before the 2025 deadline in the team's current predicament.
That doesn't mean Peters won't make a movie. He's aggressive and has conviction in every decision. If the general manager believes there is an agreement out there that can help the Commanders get back on track, he won't hesitate to give it the green light.
And there is one notable development around the league that might have Peters' attention.
In a stunning development, experienced linebacker Logan Wilson has requested a trade from the Cincinnati Bengals, according to Ben Baby from ESPN. He's been a highly productive starter since entering the league as a third-round pick, but the AFC North club's commitment to youth is leading to his role diminishing slightly.
The sixth-year player has started in all seven of his appearances this season. However, the team captain has seen his role reduced over the course of the season. Rookies Barrett Carter and Demetrius Knight Jr. have received the bulk of the team's defensive snaps. Wilson, a third-round pick in the 2020 draft, has been a pivotal member of Cincinnati's defense in the turnaround. Wilson was a starter on a Cincinnati squad that reached the Super Bowl. In six seasons with the team, he has made 75 starts and totaled six forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and 11 interceptions.Ban Baby, ESPN
The Commanders' linebacking corps benefited greatly from Frankie Luvu and Bobby Wagner last season. Their influence has waned this time around, and Wilson would solve one glaring flaw at the defensive second level from the moment he got into the building.
Wagner is looking his age, while Luvu is struggling to generate the same impactful plays amid more attention from opposing offenses. In the former's case, he's a complete liability in coverage, which just so happens to be an area in which Wilson excels.
Wilson logged four-straight 100-tackle seasons before the current campaign. He's also got 11 interceptions and 25 pass breakups throughout his six-year career. The player is approaching 30, and his contract doesn't expire until 2028, which is off-putting. However, he's still performing well enough to warrant interest if the price is right.
Peters will probably stand pat with what he has right now. The Commanders are 3-4 and have already given up considerable assets for Marshon Lattimore, Laremy Tunsil, and Deebo Samuel Sr. Sacrificing additional assets comes with risk. Still, Wilson does at least represent a longer-term investment rather than a band-aid fix.
And it could even prolong Wagner's ability to be impactful along the way.
