An alleged robbery involving Steelers backup quarterback Skylar Thompson has reportedly been looked over by Irish police who issued an update on the incident following the team's 24-21 win in Dublin.

According to reports from Irish media outlets, the 28-year-old QB was involved in an early-morning "situation" in the nation's capital where "a number of males were involved in an assault on Thompson near the Temple Bar area."

Neither the Steelers nor authorities have confirmed the allegations, according to the Associated Press. But on Monday, police in the Emerald Isle offered their first comments may or may not have transpired.

Irish police issue statement on Thompson

Per a statement made by national police, authorities are still trying to establish whether or not Thompson was robbed.

"No formal complaint has been made by any person at this time," police said Monday, per the AP (via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette). Adding, "Following preliminary enquiries, An Garda Síochána has no further information to substantiate, or not, any report this incident involved a robbery."

Police also didn't comment on any reports of an assault but did say that officers on patrol this weekend "encountered a male who required medical assistance" and that "The male in his 20s was treated and assessed at the scene by emergency services personnel."

Thompson turns Instagram private

In the days following the reports, Thompson has since set his Instagram to private. While both the Steelers and the NFLPA have both issued releases of their own on the matter.

With Pittsburgh saying, "[We're] aware of a situation involving Skylar Thompson on Friday night in Dublin. We will have no further comment at this time as we are working with NFL security to gather more information regarding the incident."

"As always, our priority is the health and safety of our player members — especially as we continue to work on the player protections and well-being while playing international games," the Players Association added. "And we will continue to support Skylar in any way he needs."

Clearly, there's a lot that still needs to be sorted out with this whole situation. But we certainly hope the best for everyone involved and look forward to police getting to the bottom of it soon.

The Steelers have a bye week before returning to action on Oct. 12 against the Browns. Thompson has been on injured reserve earlier this month with hamstring injury and wasn't eligible to play in Sunday's overseas game.
