Is 30 The New 20?
In the NFL, turning 30 used to be an adage that your best playing days were more than likely behind you.
As of late, that adage has been put to the test, as players are playing longer and more productively, even into their later years, thanks to improvements in player safety and how they care for their bodies throughout the entire calendar year, not just the football season.
For the sake of our 2025 Miami Dolphins, let’s hope this rings true.
In his tenure, Chris Grier has been referred to as a lot of things, but Jay-Z?! Don’t laugh. There is more to this than meets the eye at first glance.
Cue Jay-Z with the Soundtrack for your 2025 Miami Dolphins:
“30’s the new 20 I’m so hot still”
“30’s the new 20 I’m on fire still”
To be brutally honest, our success this year is hinging on a core of 30-something-year-olds who need to not only turn back the clock with their performances on the field but, in the case of a couple of others, need to accelerate the clock intellectually for some younger players in their respective position groups to better prepared.
Let’s take a look at the cast who will all be 30+ by the time the Regular Season Opener rolls around on Sunday, September 7th, against Indianapolis:
We don’t have to dig too deep to understand that Tyreek Hill and Zach Sieler are pillars of everything we are trying to accomplish, respectively, Offensively & Defensively. They need to be our best and most consistent players on each side of the ball in order for this to have any chance to work out.
How much do they have left in the tank to carry this team?
Darren Waller is a total wild card in all of this, as he just came out of retirement after pursuing a career in, of all things, music instead of football. Oh, the irony. So Miami Dolphins.
Does he have anything left close to what he showed with the Raiders?
In Pharoah Brown & Artie Burns, we have a couple of contributors who may make their biggest impact off the field. Akin to a Producer or Mixer who doesn’t get credit for the song but does so many things behind the scenes that go unnoticed.
With the recent departure of Jonnu Smith & Jalen Ramsey, there is a huge void talent-wise in the Tight End and Cornerback Rooms. Can these seasoned veterans do anything to elevate the games of promising talents such as Julian Hill, Tanner Conner, Cam Smith, & Storm Duck?
Many questions, but one thing is certain…
If 30 Isn’t The New 20, then Chris Grier is going to be more Dame Dash than Jay-Z.
