Is Andy Reid Retiring After Super Bowl LIX? Here’s What He Said

For the fifth time in his Kansas City Chiefs career, head coach Andy Reid led his team to the Super Bowl.

He and the Chiefs will face off against a familiar foe - the Philadelphia Eagles - whom the Chiefs played against in Super Bowl LVII and Reid coached for 14 years. Two years ago Kansas City got the better of Philadelphia in a thrilling 38-35 contest that started what could be a historic run for the Chiefs, who can make NFL history as the only franchise to win three straight Super Bowl titles.

As the game draws near, fans have begun to wonder if the Chiefs head coach would call it a career following the Super Bowl - if the Chiefs win, of course.

Team owner Clark Hunt made it clear he didn’t believe Reid was anywhere close to retirement, despite heavy rumors about his future in the week leading up to Super Bowl LVIII last year.

"He's always said that he'll know when the time is right and I'm sure he'll share it with me before he shares it with everyone else," Hunt said. "At least I hope so, but I don't sense that he's anywhere close to being done.’'

As for Reid, he knows exactly where he’ll be when the 2025 NFL season kicks off - on the Chiefs sideline.

“Yes, I’ll be back,” Reid told reporters on Tuesday. Reid claims his decision is not rooted in trying to surpass Bill Belichick on the list for most playoff wins - Belichick’s 31 to Reid’s 28.

“That’s not part of it,” Reid said. “I just enjoy teaching. I don’t get caught up much in the stats or the records. I enjoy being around the guys. I enjoy football, the game. You can’t put in the hours we do and not enjoy it. I love the game.”

Super Bowl LIX between the Chiefs and Eagles kicks off at 6:30 p.m EST on Fox.
