Is Bill Belichick still planning to coach in 2025?

It sounds like former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick could be back on NFL sidelines come August 2025.

"Bill Belichick intends to coach in 2025," NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero reported while guest-hosting Tuesday's edition of "The Rich Eisen Show," as shared by Scott Polacek of Bleacher Report. "He's staying engaged in the game. He's showing up to roasts. He's now going to be on 'Inside the NFL.' We've seen him showing up to different events."

Belichick turned 72 years old this past spring and was shown the door by Patriots owner Robert Kraft after the franchise missed the playoffs for the third time in four years. The six-time Super Bowl champion head coach ultimately failed to land the Atlanta Falcons' head-coaching job this offseason, but it was subsequently reported during the spring that Belichick was "believed to be biding his time until next January for openings on teams he has told confidants he would be interested in coaching."

Those clubs are the New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys.

Belichick earned the first two Super Bowl rings of his Hall of Fame career during a stint with the Giants that ran from 1979-90. It's believed team co-owner John Mara could part ways with head coach Brian Daboll and/or general manager Joe Schoen if the club endures a second-straight losing campaign.

Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni reportedly is on the hot seat after Philadelphia suffered a brutal collapse in the second half of the 2023 season. Meanwhile, the Cowboys may be in the middle of a "lame-duck year" with head coach Mike McCarthy and quarterback Dak Prescott in the final seasons of their contracts.

As for Belichick, he will enter this fall 15 victories away from setting an NFL record for career wins earned by a head coach (regular season and postseason combined).

"He wants to pursue the all-time wins record," Pelissero added about Belichick. "Those are things that really matter a lot to Bill Belichick."

That's all well and good, but questions about Belichick's "ability to relate to this generation of players" arose well before New England finished the 2023 season at 4-13. It remains to be seen if he can rehab his image to the point of silencing such takes before the next set of head-coaching jobs opens up.
