Is Brock Purdy Better than Jordan Love?
USA TODAY Sports

Let's compare Brock Purdy to the quarterback he'll face this Saturday night at Levi's Stadium -- Packers QB Jordan Love.

But Purdy and Love are two of the best young quarterbacks in the league. And during the past 10 games, they've been two of the best quarterbacks in the league, period. Full stop. No qualifiers.

Here are their numbers during the past 10 games.

PURDY: 7 wins, 3 losses, 70.5 completion percentage, 288.4 passing yards per game, 21 TD passes, 10 interceptions, 113.7 quarterback rating.

LOVE: 7 wins, 3 losses, 68.5 completion percentage, 271.1 passing yards per game, 23 TD passes, 3 interceptions, 111.3 quarterback rating.

As you can see, they've been nearly equals for the past half of the season. Both have been elite, MVP-caliber quarterbacks.

Purdy is more accurate than Love, as the completion percentage indicates. Purdy also takes more chances than Love, because Purdy sees himself as a gunslinger and likes to throw with anticipation before receivers have made their breaks. That's why he has thrown 10 picks in his past 10 games.

Love has been much more cautious than Purdy during these past 10 games. Love hasn't thrown for as many yards, but he has thrown only 3 picks in his past 10 games. He isn't beating himself, which is why the Packers have won so many games recently even though they're the youngest team in the NFL.

Purdy almost certainly has a better supporting cast than Love, which makes Love's production even more impressive. You could argue he's keeping up with Purdy statistically while playing with a far inferior supporting cast.

It's hard to say which quarterback is better right now. I guess we'll find out on Saturday.
