Cleveland Browns wide receiver Denzel Boston was selected in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft, so obviously the team hopes he can step in and contribute immediately to an offense lacking a ton of star power.
However, Boston wasn’t even the first wide receiver picked by the team in the draft, as that honor went to former Texas A&M wide receiver KC Concepcion, who posted a 14-yard rushing touchdown in the preseason opener against the Chicago Bears last Saturday.
While there is the circus that is the quarterback race, pitting the much-maligned Deshaun Watson with the ego-centric Shedeur Sanders, there is another heated rivalry for a top job going on between two fellow rookies.
Boston and Concepcion will be forever linked, going in the first and second round of the 2026 NFL Draft, while the team also selected rookie offensive tackle Spencer Fano at No. 9 overall.
Boston is a lanky receiver at 6-foot-4, 215 pounds, which will give him a size advantage for 50-50 balls in the red zone. The 22-year-old played four seasons at the University of Washington, and he was one of the top receivers in the 2026 NFL Draft class. He started the past two seasons, while averaging 62.5 receptions per season, while posting 857.5 receiving yards and 10.0 receiving touchdowns in the span. He also ran for a touchdown in 2022, but that isn’t widely believed to be part of his game.
Concepcion is more of a slot receiver type, standing an even 6-foot-0, 190 pounds, and he is more of a Swiss Army knife, who can cut across the middle in traffic, return kicks and also take end-arounds. That was on display in the Chicago game last weekend, when he scored Cleveland’s first touchdown of the preseason on a run.
The two receivers have different body types, but they both figure to be dynamic. Boston has been reportedly putting on a show in training camp, with ESPN’s Daniel Oyefusi opining that Boston is trending to be the No. 1 receiver sooner rather than later. He has been making highlight-reel snags that have the fans hyped, and the media expecting big things when the games start counting for real.
Lost in the mix is veteran Jerry Jeudy, who was previously considered the No. 1 wideout. While he has the NFL experience, he appears to be lost in the mix a little, as the team features younger players like Boston, Concepcion and second-year tight end Harold Fannin Jr. in the passing game.
