When talking about the best football players in Los Angeles, only two names left Rich Eisen’s mouth before the suggestion of Caleb Williams, USC quarterback and reigning Heisman trophy winner, came from on-air producer Chris Brockman.
The two names preceding Williams were Aaron Donald, three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, and Cooper Kupp, 2021 NFL Offensive Player of the Year.
Safe to say, Williams found himself in good company as the cast of "The Rich Eisen Show" sought to compile a list of the top five football players in Los Angeles on Thursday’s show.
Does Caleb Williams belong on the list? He has never played a snap in the NFL and is just two years removed from his high school graduation.
Social media producer T.J. Jefferson believes so—emphatically.
“He would be on my list,” Jefferson said. “We can put Caleb Williams on there and leave Matt Stafford off.”
Fox Sports analyst Nick Wright declared Williams a top-five NFL quarterback in a February episode of "First Things First."
Jefferson’s willingness to put Williams ahead of Stafford—a Super Bowl champion, Pro Bowler and former first overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft—and Wright’s praise raises eyebrows and cries of an LA bias, but it should not.
Williams, after just two seasons in college, and only one as a full-time starter, looks the part of a future NFL superstar.
With 4,537 yards, a greater than eight-to-one TD-INT ratio and a 66.6% completion percentage, Williams played a massive role in the Trojans' turnaround from 4-8 in 2021 to 11-3 in 2022.
Beyond the stats, Williams shows an uncanny ability to make plays inside of the pocket, out of the pocket, on-script, off-script, with his legs and with his arm.

A nice play navigating pressure in the pocket from Caleb Williams, but how about that route from Jordan Addison?

Williams undoubtedly earned a spot on the list of the top five football players in Los Angeles with his play over the previous two seasons. The only uncertainty that comes with Williams is which NFL team will be fortunate enough to draft him in 2024.
