Although the 2025 college football season is far from over, Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman has been mentioned in a few rumors this week.
Freeman is currently in his fourth year as the coach of the Fighting Irish. He has the program on track to make the College Football Playoff for the second year in a row. All they need to do is take care of business against Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Stanford over the next three weeks.
Notre Dame has enjoyed plenty of success under Freeman's command, which is why he's constantly mentioned as a popular name ever coaching cycle.
With schools such as Florida, LSU and Penn State searching for a new leader, Freeman has once again been mentioned in coaching carousel rumors. There's also a third SEC school that he's been attached to.
Rumors about Freeman leaving Notre Dame first surfaced on Tuesday when Brandon Walker of Barstool Sports posted this message on social media: "Oh my goodness, Arkansas football. Wow is all I can say. That would be impressive."
That post eventually led to an Arkansas fan spreading a rumor online.
"Marcus Freeman has a handshake agreement to be the next head coach at the University of Arkansas," a fan of the Razorbacks wrote on X. "Obviously can’t put pen to paper until after the season, but it appears Arkansas has hit a homerun."
Despite all the buzz surrounding Freeman's future, he has zero plans to leave Notre Dame for Arkansas.
Interestingly enough, Freeman has been mentioned as a candidate for the New York Giants. Maybe he'd consider abandoning Notre Dame for the NFL. After all, the G-Men have some intriguing playmakers and a potential-packed quarterback in Jaxson Dart.
Make no mistake though, Freeman won't be the next head coach at Arkansas. That would be a demotion at this point in his career.
