Well, here we are, folks. This is what happens when you play with fire, and the Dallas Cowboys have just had their best player request a trade.
The long, drawn-out contract saga with Micah Parsons has hit a new low, and after the constant jabs back and forth, Micah wants out. He's over it, and he wants to start fresh.
Or does he?
We don't have to look too far back to see how the "trade request" can really be seen by a franchise, and two names come to mind. Lamar Jackson and Myles Garrett.
Both did as Micah did, and requested a trade from their respective franchises, and just days later, miraculously, they got themselves a new deal.
And Cowboy Nation is hoping this is the case with Micah.
It is well-known that Parsons and Jerry Jones had a gentleman's agreement when it came to the nuts and bolts of the contract back in March, but there hasn't been any movement since. No calls back and forth, nothing.
Hence the trade request.
Now, do we really think Micah wants out of Dallas? A franchise he loves and dreamed of playing for? We struggle to believe that, but then again, everyone has a breaking point, and for a player who has done all the right things both on and off the field, maybe we've just found Micah's.
Secondly, would the Cowboys want to trade Parsons? Absolutely not. One more year left on his contract, but the potential to franchise tag him for the next two seasons, so Micah isn't going anywhere.
So that brings us to the $40 million question.
Is Micah's trade request a last-ditch effort to get his contract extension, or has he finally had enough of the antics, media manipulation, drawn-out contract talks, and constant verbal beatdowns by Jerry and Stephen Jones that he genuinely wants out?
For Cowboys fans, we hope it's not the latter.
