Is NFL planning to punish Panthers owner David Tepper?

During the Panthers' 26-0 loss to the Jaguars in Week 17, a video emerged of owner David Tepper throwing a drink into a crowd filled with Jacksonville fans. The NFL has acknowledged the video but has said nothing more since.

According to CBS NFL insider Jonathan Jones, it would be surprising if the league doesn't punish Tepper for his actions. But it is confusing why both sides have remained silent.

"A substantial fine and potential suspension from game(s) has to be on the table for David Tepper from the NFL," Jones said. "There's been no apology since — not a peep — from the team is unusual, to say the least."

Pro Football Talk asked the Panthers and the NFL if there's anything to add on Tuesday and neither provided further comment beyond what they've already stated.

The league has likely seen everything it needs to hand some type of punishment to Tepper. So it is unusual that two days have already passed since the incident and nothing more has been said.

Tepper may be staying silent for legal reasons, but an apology wouldn't hurt anyone and possibly even help lighten a potential punishment by the NFL.

It has certainly been a difficult year for Carolina. It owns the league's worst record (2-14) and doesn't even have its first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft after dealing it as part of the trade for the 2023 No. 1 pick, QB Bryce Young.

Nobody was predicting the Panthers to make the playoffs or even have a winning record by the season's end, but two wins is an underachievement. Tepper's frustrations are starting to boil over and it isn't a pretty look for the organization.

Carolina's nightmare season will finally come to an end when it hosts the Buccaneers (8-8) in its regular-season finale on Sunday.
