Is Packers’ offense sustainable? NFL analyst weighs in

The Green Bay Packers are riding high after a 27-19 Thursday Night Football win over Carolina, including QB Jordan Love, who sent a message to the home state Brewers after their World Series win. The Packers’ defense got praise from head coach Matt LaFleur after beating the Panthers, but the offense was criticized for crucial mistakes in Week 7’s loss at the Detroit Lions, and for its low rushing output against Carolina.

Marcus Spears of the NFL on ESPN spoke about the situation following the game, revealing why he believes the Packers’ offensive situation is a tenuous one.

“I kept asking myself, ‘Is this sustainable?’ Right, we know what this league is…Right now, Green Bay is so bad (at the running game). And we all know…In this version, when you look at Green Bay…Jordan Love is playing absolutely out of his mind right now. But there is a perfect storm for things to go wrong. Drops, and no run game. When you think about last night, because of no run game, Carolina almost got back in that football game, because they have to throw the football so much. I’m looking forward to seeing if they can get that part of their offense going.”

The Packers have time to fix things, either in-house or in the trade market, but the tests are about to get tougher as the hours of daylight get shorter and late fall arrives. Their running game has a potential star in Josh Jacobs, led by a strong but inconsistent offensive line, now the Packers’ fortunes may rest on how well they commit to, and hone, their run game going forward.
