A team once the pinnacle of success over the past 20 years now finds itself in a world of uncertainty after disappointing back-to-back seasons. The New England Patriots have put their faith in 24-year-old quarterback Mac Jones, who came off a promising rookie season. Jones threw 22 touchdowns, 13 interceptions, and 3,801 passing yards with a 92.5 rating. However, the Alabama product faces his biggest challenge yet and poses a concern for Fantasy Football owners.

Coaching Shake-Up Creating Concern for Mac Jones Fantasy Output

The off-season departure of Josh McDaniels, longtime Offensive Coordinator for the Patriots, has cast doubt on the prospect of a successful New England offense. Joe Judge and Matt Patricia have been trusted to lead the offense. In doing so, Head Coach Bill Belichick will run the defense. Patricia was the Defensive Coordinator for the Patriots before being hired as Head Coach at the Detroit Lions in 2018. Judge led the Special Teams until he departed for the Head Coach position at the New York Giants in 2020. Patricia and Judge returning to the Patriots with a lack of experience as Offensive Coordinators should concern fantasy owners considering Jones as an option.

Mac Jones Mindset for 2022

Jones spoke to WEEI on September 6th stating he is, “really pleased with the progress we (the offense) have made.” The New England QB continued and credited, “really smart,” players and coaches within the organization. The addition of WR DeVante Parker could provide Jones the deep threat the Patriots’ offensive has been lacking the past few seasons.

The Patriots have started off the season with a 1-1 record with two unconvincing performances away to the Dolphins and the Steelers. Jones has posted 465 passing yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions with an 83.2 rating. Will Mac Jones be a concern for Fantasy owners this season, or prove the doubters wrong?
