Is there still a worthwhile bet on the NFL MVP winner?

Is there still a worthwhile bet on the NFL MVP winner ahead of Saturday's announcement?

The NFL Honors Awards ceremony is set for this Saturday in Los Angeles, an annual event right before Super Bowl Sunday.

There are multiple awards to be announced, such as Coach of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year, and MVP.

At this point, MVP voting has been finalized and any futures bets on the award have come and gone.

The Favorite and If There's a Betting Angle

It's not likely worth a bet on the MVP, but it's still interesting to follow.

The overwhelming favorite is Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. It appears to be a foregone conclusion that Rodgers will take home his second straight MVP and fourth overall.

Currently, Rodgers is -400 to win the award, if you can find his odds still available on the sportsbook available to you.

A look at how the MVP odds have shifted throughout the year:

Assuming Rodgers does win the award on Saturday, he would move into second place all time in MVP wins, with four. Only Peyton Manning, who was just inducted into the Hall of Fame, has more (five).

Rodgers is currently tied in MVP wins with the only other player considered to be in contention for the award, that being recently retired Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady.

Brady is currently +500 to win MVP, and certainly has the numbers of a worthy candidate.

Brady led the NFL in passing yards (5,316) and touchdowns (43), while leading Tampa Bay to a 13-4 regular season record.

Rodgers and the Packers finished with the same record, but you can argue Green Bay's offense lacked the weapons the Bucs had, and Rodgers had a stronger TD-INT ratio, tossing 37 touchdowns to just four interceptions.

If you believe voters felt a sudden wave of nostalgia with Brady announcing his retirement, by all means place a small wager on the best to ever do it to win MVP on Saturday.

It appears the race is finished, and Rodgers is expected to win. It is not recommended you place a bet on -400 odds.
