The Minnesota Vikings have built up the roster for a potential Super Bowl run. Even with how good the roster is, there are still a couple of areas that you could consider weak.
The biggest spot where the Vikings have questions is at cornerback. After Byron Murphy Jr., there isn't anyone set in stone as a player who is a certainty. The biggest question mark in that group is the guy who is currently slotted as CB2 in Isaiah Rodgers.
Rodgers came to the Vikings on a modest two-year, $11 million contract. It's a similar contract to what Josh Metellus signed in 2023 and Theo Jackson signed this year. The idea is that you give them slightly above backup money to be a starter, you get the value benefit from it, and you can give them a bigger contract once they prove themselves. It worked for Metellus, who just signed a three-year extension on Saturday.
Rodgers took some time to answer questions after Friday's practice and exuded the utmost confidence.
"I put 15 in my notes just in case," said Rodgers about how many interceptions he plans to get in 2025. "If I fail and go short of it, I still probably get 10."
If Rodgers ended up getting 15 interceptions, it would beat Dick "Night Train" Lane's record of 14 he set in 1952. It's a lofty number, but having that kind of confidence is exactly what you want from a cornerback. You need to have it to succeed at the NFL level.
Through three days of training camp practice, Rodgers has already made a positive impression on head coach Kevin O'Connell.
"I continue to say Isaiah Rogers to me, is a guy that you know he's here for a reason, and he's already demonstrated why we really wanted to bring him here. (He's) probably one of the faster players on our team, ultra consistent, confident, never off balance, never panics. And I think that's going to bode really well, when you pair that skill set outside with the way we can pressure the quarterback."
With how Brian Flores likes to use his cornerbacks, Rodgers' patience and quickness will be a huge factor in the unit's success. Having some good practices to start training camp obviously makes a difference in opinions across the building, but it also eases the worries across the board.
Make no mistake about it: Rodgers can play.
Getting eyes on Isaiah Rodgers and his patience stands out to me. Here, he doesn't over commit his leverage and stays in the hip pocket on the blaze route pic.twitter.com/6PcuE9JvtF
