It took seven games for Eagles to realize DeVonta Smith is a number one receiver

Most people who ask who the best wide receiver on the Philadelphia Eagles is would say A.J. Brown. There might be an argument being made that someone else is slightly better than him. At least for 2025.

DeVonta Smith had an impressive game against the Minnesota Vikings as he caught nine passes for 183 yards and a touchdown in the 28-22 win. The two biggest plays of the game came from Smith, who helped the team pick up the victory.

Smith's first big play was in the third quarter when he caught a 79-yard touchdown pass from Jalen Hurts after a rough quarter plus prior for the Eagles' offense. The second big play came midway through the fourth quarter when he got a 21-yard completion on the second-to-last drive of the game. That play set up the A.J. Brown touchdown catch to give them the two-possession lead.

There might be a real argument for Smith being a number one receiver on the Eagles

Smith has already had two 100-yard games in the last three games for the Eagles. He is proving to be a deep threat receiver fans have been accustomed to seeing.

It does feel as though Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo has figured out how to use the offensive weapons the right way. Everyone is going to focus on Brown, but Smith is just as dangerous, if not more than Brown.

Hurts is starting to have more confidence in Smith and throwing that deep ball to him. The Eagles quarterback targeted him 11 times in the Vikings game.

Everyone is going to continue to push on the Brown narrative that he's the better receiver, but Smith's sneaky speed and ability to go up and make a catch needs to be talked about more. It's time for Eagles fans to acknowledge that Smith might actually be the better receiver this season than Brown.
