It’s A Bad Day To Be A Cowboys Fan

FRISCO - It's a bad day to be a Dallas Cowboys fan. ... and we have five specific ripped-from-the-headlines new examples as to why that is the case.

Our Mike Fisher - with 35 years on the Cowboys beat obviously serving as evidence that he has seen plenty of ups and downs, including his coverage of the three Super Bowl champions in the 1990s - demonstrates and details the issues in his five-point Fish Report video going viral. From Fish in brief (check out the video and the podcast for the deep dives) …

It's a bad day to be a Dallas Cowboys fan REASON No. 1: From the consideration of tanking - a worthy idea given the fact that the oddsmakers now give "America's Team'' a 1-percent chance at even being a wild card in the postseason - all the way up to owner Jerry Jones’ willingness to look in the mirror for the core problem, the opportunity for real self-examination exists.

And yet they are, from top to bottom, stubbornly not being honest with themselves.

It's a bad day to be a Dallas Cowboys fan REASON No 2: "I stand by it!'' Somebody named "Amani Oruwariye'' is now a new spokesman for much of what ails this franchise. He committed a boneheaded game-losing play against the Bengals on Monday when he inexplicably touched the ball when he shouldn't have.

Every single middle-school coach in America knows Orurariye goofed.

But here inside The Star? "A.O.'' is being blindly defended and even celebrated for "trying to make a play,'' a position that empowers Oruwariye - who in another time and place would've been cut by Tuesday morning - to claim "I stand by it!'' ... as if the mistake never happened at all.

You want organizational accountability from the Joneses? How is that possible when you can't even get it from somebody named "Amani Oruwariye''?

It's a bad day to be a Dallas Cowboys fan REASON No. 3: DeMarvion Overshown. There was a vision, just for a minute there, that Dallas might be in the process of developing a "Micah Parsons Jr.'' to team with the original.

And now we know Overshown's nasty knee injury is so awful that he might miss all of 2025.

It's a bad day to be a Dallas Cowboys fan REASON No. 4: Coach Bill Belichick has chosen his path. And he's picked "The Tar Over The Star.'' Mark my words: The NFL's all-time greatest coach's decision to go the University of North Carolina instead of taking over the Dallas Cowboys is surely complexed and nuanced.

But history might remember this moment simply: "The Tar'' is somehow now more attractive than "The Star.''

It's a bad day to be a Dallas Cowboys fan REASON No. 5: The Disappearing $100 million. If you read this space, you know about it. That $100 million in cap room that is available in 2025? Cowboys COO Stephen Jones just made it disappear.

By spending it? No, unfortunately.

By pretending it does not exist.

So yeah. It's a bad day to be a Dallas Cowboys fan.

We are betting you as a Cowboys fan might have even more reasons than Fish’s five … We invite you to share those in the fish report here!
