‘It’s Awesome’: John Harbaugh Gushes Over Jameis Winston’s Positivity

There were moments Sunday, especially in the first half, where it appeared the New York Giants might make a quarterback switch in Landover, Maryland.

Yet, Jameis Winston continued to get up after being knocked down, which is what continues to endear him to Giants coach John Harbaugh.

Harbaugh expressed his joy for having Winston’s positivity and excellent attitude after Winston rallied the Giants for a 27-27 tie against the Washington Commanders on Sunday at Northwest Stadium.

Winston shook off a dreadful start, where he went 7 for 16 for 72 yards and lost a fumble in the first half before quickly turning things around in the second half and overtime.

John Harbaugh: Jameis Winston’s Positivity ‘Is Awesome’

The Giants could have folded when they lost Jaxson Dart for the season due to a torn MCL and meniscus. But they have the ultimate optimist running their offense in Winston, who has used that attitude to go 2-0-1 in his first three games since taking over for Dart.

“It’s awesome,” Harbaugh said of Winston’s positivity. “I mean, it’s the best thing to be around, and it’s genuine.

“He is a very good guy. He works extremely hard. He’s very motivated. He’s an unbelievable competitor. He’s tough as can be. He’s a fighter, and he just doesn’t let adversity get him down.”

Winston has shown remarkable resilience all season, first in taking over for Dart and then persevering through his on-field struggles in his first two starts. Winston is 51 of 83 (61.4%) for 576 yards with six touchdowns and three turnovers over the past two games.

“It’s not how many times you get knocked down, it’s how many times you get back up,” Harbaugh said. “You need to be plus-one in the get-up category, and that’s exactly what he does every single day of his life.”

The Jameis Winston Era Will Keep Going

Between Winston’s white-hot second half and overtime (26 for 38, 254 yards, three touchdowns), and J.J. McCarthy’s unimpressive five plays in the tie, Winston looks like the better option for the Giants at quarterback.

His unwavering faith continues to be a boon for Winston and the Giants.

“When you have unwavering faith, you’re not fazed by the circumstances, conditions and facts,” Winston said. “That’s something that I am continuing to share with the guys

It has seemed like only a matter of time until McCarthy takes over, and indeed the 23-year-old may continue to siphon reps from Winston as he learns the offense.

But Winston still hasn’t lost as a starter this season, even though the Giants needed to stave off defeat for the third week in a row, and he’s willing to cede plays if Harbaugh and Co. think it’ll help the Giants win.

“I think coaches get paid a lot of money to make decisions and do what they do,” Winston said. “Whatever is required for us to win, I am for that.”
