I've got some bad news. And before we dive in, just make sure you're ready for it – try your best to not shed too many tears over what you're about to read. We'll make it through, together.
The Chiefs are sad. Life simply isn't fair – they had to go lose a Super Bowl in front of everyone. For the first time in the history of the National Football League, the Chiefs played a primetime game and didn't benefit from shenanigans. They were weighed; they were measured; and they were found wanting.
And since everyone loves the Chiefs, it should come as no surprise to any of us that their 'biggest concern' heading into the new season – according to The Athletic, at least – is whether or not they're okay after their sad wittle loss. Won't someone consider their pain? Why must we all insist on piling on? It's really not fair.
“How will the Chiefs respond to the Eagles thumping them in the Super Bowl? Pretty devastating,” guard Mike Caliendo called February’s Super Bowl. Travis Kelce said he “failed” his teammates, then mulled retirement. Patrick Mahomes vowed it would haunt him for the rest of his career. The Chiefs were 60 minutes from history, vying to become the first team in the Super Bowl era to win three in a row. Then they were pummeled in New Orleans, so severely humbled that they were forced to face some hard questions about the leaks on their roster, starting with an offensive line that gave them no shot against the Eagles. The impetus was clear. The Chiefs could have as many as three new starters. How the offensive line jells — and performs — will be central to this team’s pursuit of a fourth title since 2020."
Oh no! I didn't realize that it would haunt Patrick Mahomes for the rest of his career. We should all thank the Chiefs for pointing out that [checks notes] losing the [checks notes again] Super Bowl by [checks notes one last time] three scores is [just kidding, back to the notes] devastating.
Keep the Chiefs in your hearts this year – they could use all the positive vibes they can get. They could have as many as *three* new starters!
