It’s Time For Another Rebuild

This was not supposed to happen.

Back in 2018, the Dolphins were stuck in mediocrity, so they decided to sell off any veteran assets in hopes of securing draft picks for the future.

In 2019, the team lost its first two games by a combined score of 92-10 as it would go on to a 5-11 record in a “tank season”.

While the losing did eventually lead to two straight playoff appearances, there would be no playoff wins.

It was essentially the same place that the team was in before the rebuild.

And now, just six years later, Miami opened its season with a similar blowout loss to what it had in 2019.

With today’s ugly, depressing 33-8 defeat in Indianapolis, it is clear.

It is time once again to blow it up.

The Dolphins’ front office, even though most key decision-makers won’t even be here next season, needs to move any assets with any sort of value.

Miami tried to become a contender in 2023.

That did not work.

Maybe you could say it is a little too late, and the team should have traded Tyreek Hill, Jaelan Phillips, Bradley Chubb, and others back in the off-season when they moved Jalen Ramsey.

But, at the time, they thought this team had a chance at a wild-card spot.

After today’s loss, it is pretty clear that they overvalued what this team had.

They have until the trade deadline to see what pieces are worth keeping around for the future, and what pieces have the right value to be moved to other teams around the league.

That also includes Tua Tagovailoa.

It is clear that he is not the answer either and is probably spending his last year with the organization, as inevitably there will be a coaching change this off-season.

I’ll admit.

I am usually not the doom and gloom type.

But I have seen this story time and time again.

There is no reason to keep this team in mediocrity.

They need to cut their losses while they can and look toward the 2026 draft and beyond.

It is the best thing for the organization.
