It's time for the Packers to make a decision on the offensive line, and a rookie is the best option
Tork Mason / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Green Bay Packers lost in week 1 to the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil. Now, they are back in Wisconsin to play against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday at Lambeau Field. This is time for our weekly mailbag talking about what happened and what will happen.

Just like you, for the most part I don't agree with the Packers' approach to rotate offensive linemen in general. Or at least I didn't when they used the strategy last season with Rasheed Walker, Yosh Nijman, Jon Runyan, Sean Rhyan. This year, though, brought different circumstances.

The Packers drafted Jordan Morgan because of his positional versatility, and the idea was that he could play right away at guard. Morgan did surpass Rhyan in training camp but got hurt. So what the Packers are trying to do is to give Morgan some reps, some experience, before proclaiming him a full-time starter.

That made sense in week 1. But considering everything (age, upside, contract, value, and what they did on the field in the first game), I've seen enough to think that it's time to just play Morgan from now on.

Regarding the first question, there's no doubt the best experience was the Packers Brasil Watch Party on Thursday Night. The opportunity to meet in person people that I've know digitally for so much time was truly special. Going to practice on Thursday was also pretty fun, and I might say that the eve of the game was more satisfying than the Friday itself.

As for the second question, it was Jayden Reed. He was amazing for most of the game, creating explosives and taking advantage of a favorable matchup for his abilities.

Reed has every tool necessary to be a primary weapon in the NFL, and if he keeps this track of development, the discussions about who the Packers wide receiver one is will end pretty soon.

I have some legit concerns about what the Packers showed and about Jeff Hafley's overall philosophy, but it's too early to make definitive statements.

In general, I didn't like that the defense was just too static after the snap, there was little to no disguise, and they just played too much base defense considering how today's NFL works and that the linebacker group is certainly the weakest part of the roster. It just didn't make sense.

We have to wait to determine if it was just a gameplan option or a real week-to-week philosophy, hoping for it to be the former. While turnovers are awesome and change the outcomes of games, they are just too volatile to bank on. It's impossible to build a defense around it, and at some point you have to be able to stop the opposing offense without turnovers, something the Packers couldn't do against the Philadelphia Eagles. It was mostly turnover or touchdown, and that won't do it against top quarterbacks.

Edgerrin Cooper is already their linebacker with the highest ceiling, considering Quay Walker's ceiling is just an unrealized projection at this point. Cooper played with a speed and an effectiveness that I've never seen from Walker. Isaiah McDuffie and Eric Wilson are just role players and special teamers, so I expect Cooper to be a starter pretty soon. The coaching staff also mentioned during this week how impactful the rookie was in São Paulo, so there's no reason to hold him back.

The Packers need more impact from players early on during their rookie deals, and if they can have a plus player with Cooper from the get go, that would be huge for their roster construction.
